Bryan Brockus, LCMFT

I was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, but always dreamed of living in California with its sunny weather and beach culture. However, as a married adult with three children, I have come to appreciate the practicality and affordability of the Midwest. I earned a B.S. in Psychology from Friends University in 2007 and initially planned to pursue a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy to work with struggling youth and their families. However, after watching my wife complete her MFT program, I realized that I wasn't emotionally ready for such intense schooling. Instead, I decided to become an EMT and was eventually hired by the Wichita Fire Department in November 2009.

After about eight years with the department, I began to feel frustrated with the demands of working every third night and being away from my family. My children missed me, my sleep suffered, and my marriage struggled. Despite seeking help from several talk therapists for my depression and anxiety, I didn't find the relief I was seeking. In 2017, I learned about the promising research being done on the use of psychedelics to treat trauma and depression, and decided to try this approach to healing for myself. The growth and change I experienced was unlike anything I had ever known.

Inspired to help others have a similar experience, I reached out to the Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) to learn how to become trained in this field. In August 2019, I began graduate school and completed my training with MAPS in October of that year. During my time in graduate school, I also completed hours at Holland Pathways, a residential drug and alcohol rehab facility, and at the Center on Family Living at Friends University. Since graduating, I have become trained in EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing), finished my first year of Somatic Experiencing training, and am trained in Internal Family Systems Level 1. In addition, I am trained in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) and MDMA-assisted psychotherapy through MAPS and Polaris Insight Center and the Ketamine Training Center.
